Brer Bear, Brer Fox, and Brer Rabbit are the main characters for the story that is featured in Splash Mountain at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. Their names are officially spelled Br’er Bear, Br’er Fox, and Br’er Rabbit. Both versions of their “first” names are used by The Walt Disney Company and others in various publications. In addition, the characters are featured on the other Splash Mountain rides at Disneyland California and Tokyo Disneyland. The three characters are derived from the Uncle Remus stories and the Walt Disney film Song of The South, which was created in 1946. Disney Legend Tony Baxter developed the idea for the ride while stuck in traffic on his way to work. His main idea was to bring scenes featuring Brer Rabbit, Brer Fox, and Brer Bear from the Song of the South into a water log ride.
The Story For the Attraction - Splash Mountain Characters
Brer Bear and Brer Fox play as the “bad guys” in the story that has them trying to capture Brer Rabbit. Brer Fox is the main bad character that leads the way in trying to catch Brer Rabbit. Brer Rabbit is the main character of the story. Rabbit is on a journey away from home when Brer Rabbit encounters Fox and Bear. Throughout the story, Brer Rabbit is able to escape from Brer Fox and Brer Bear through a number of tricks; however, Rabbit is captured by Fox at the end of the story. Brer Rabbit is able to escape from Brer Fox by tricking Fox into throwing him into the briar patch, which occurs at the big drop for the ride.
Splash Mountain Supporting Characters
Splash Mountain has a number of supporting characters that are part of the attraction. These characters include Br'er Frog and Mr. Bluebird. Other characters include fogs, possums, crocodiles or alligators, birds, and vultures.

Brer Bear and Brer Rabbit Items
The Walt Disney Company previously sold some items based on Brer Bear and Brer Rabbit. One of the items was a vinyl figure of Bear and Rabbit on a water log by Funko.
